Sample Exercise:“We all last went to the cinema on this past Tuesday to see the new comedy.”
This is the industry standard for the dialect of English spoken in India. The sub-continent of India is a country of around 1 billion people speaking over 400 different languages. Fifteen official languages exist for the country and its various states. Yet the history of the English language in India is very strong, and English is a co-official language, and so for stage dialect purposes, the dialect presented here will serve at least as a starting point from which adjustments and refinements can be made, depending on the background of the character to be portrayed. Learn to speak like Ben Kingsley in Gandhi and the characters in E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India! (Paul speaks the entire text himself. So you hear him demonstrate, in dialect, the signature sounds in isolation, the word lists, the practice sentences, and the two monologues.)
