What a loss! Sam Neill died today in Sydney, Australia, at the age of 78. Our condolences to his family and friends.
I had the pleasure of his company for several weeks during the filming of Molokai, The Story of Father Damien, in Hawaii, in 1998. While I did not coach Sam, who played Walter M. Gibson, the prime minister of Hawaii, I enjoyed the company of this consummate gentleman. It was an honor to know him.
